The past: I started riding push bikes, taught by my Dad, and really enjoyed watching motorsport on TV. I also enjoyed football from an early age. I started riding motorbikes but knew my Mum would never let me race them so Dad and I went to Cumbria to watch the 'Stars of Tommorow' Championship. I was hooked. The best sport in the world had come into my life and I loved it. I got my first Kart and started driving it when I was about 4 or 5 in an old barn in a village near my house. I then went outdoors to R.A.F Leeming before taking my A.R.K.S test (kart test) at Sunderland. Since then I have never looked back and have enjoyed Karting for over ten years. I can still remember my first race, I was eight and a few days old and I was in the final race of the day. I was in last place, and was starting to catch the person infront, then my throttle cable snapped. I was gutted, but continued on with my hobby racing at national, regional anmd club level. I had varied success with a top ten ranking in my first year of national 2-stroke racing. I moved into the mini-max class and took my first top ten at my first national race. Then I had a big crash, with the throttle stuck open,
I crashed flat out into a tyre barrier. This crash set me back a lot and it took me ages to get my confidence back. We raced in the National 'Motors TV' championship the next year wher I took my first national win.
